Collective Worship

Collective Worship at Brandesburton Primary School

Coming Together. Reflecting. Celebrating.

At Brandesburton Primary School, Collective Worship is a special time in our day where the whole school comes together to pause, reflect, and connect – with each other, with the wider world, and with the values that help guide us in life.

While we are not a faith-designated school, our worship is broadly Christian in nature, while also being fully inclusive, respectful and welcoming to children of all backgrounds, beliefs, and abilities.

Why We Value Collective Worship

Collective Worship gives our children the opportunity to:

  • Reflect on important values such as kindness, respect, courage, forgiveness, and hope
  • Celebrate diversity and explore different cultures, beliefs, and festivals
  • Think deeply about moral questions, the world around them, and their own place in it
  • Enjoy a quiet moment of stillness or joyful celebration together
  • Come together as a school community to share stories, achievements, and learning

It supports our school’s vision of equipping every child with a "Tool Kit for Life", helping them grow into compassionate, thoughtful individuals.

What Does Collective Worship Look Like?

Collective Worship takes many forms throughout the week and across the school:

  •  Whole-school assemblies – led by staff, visiting speakers, or pupils, often linked to our school values, current events or special themes
  • Class-based reflection time – allowing for age-appropriate discussion, circle time, or guided thinking
  • Celebration assemblies – where we recognise achievements, birthdays, good behaviour, and positive attitudes
  • Special services and events – for Harvest, Christmas, Easter and other key points in the year, often supported by local church visitors or community groups

Links with the Local Community

We have strong and respectful links with our local church and community, who regularly contribute to our worship. Visitors may share stories, songs, or values-based messages that encourage children to think about faith, kindness, and responsibility in a way that is engaging and inclusive.

Inclusive for All

Our approach to Collective Worship is inclusive and thoughtful. While Christian values are at the heart of many assemblies, we also draw from a range of cultures, traditions and worldviews to reflect the richness of the world we live in.

We fully respect the rights of parents to withdraw their child from Collective Worship if they wish, and we are always happy to discuss this with families.

At Brandesburton Primary School, Collective Worship is not just a tradition – it’s a meaningful part of how we build community, character and compassion.

If you'd like to learn more about our Collective Worship programme or visit one of our assemblies, please contact the school office.
